Sorbitol also known as Glucitol, is polya hydric alcohol that is extracted naturally from dextrose i.e. solution of gluten-free wheat. This sugary alcohol has a sweet taste that metabolizes slowly in the Human Body. It is referred to as a nutritive sweetener as it provides a high dose of dietary energy to the body. It comprises D-mannitol and D-glucitol, both of which are alcohols. Sorbitol has a mild sweet odor and is available in white crystalline form. It can be dissolved in both water and alcohol.
